i love this sm!!! as a lover of rom coms and an asexual, i have to stop myself from rolling my eyes every time someone makes a sweeping statement about dying alone or their life being over now they're single. i have never been in a relationship before and it's like people have more of a problem with that than i do, as if i need consoling - despite how often i say i'm not bothered. i think because being in a romantic relationship is kind of seen as an achievement, as a necessary step towards a happy, fulfilling life, so not being in one is then seen as a failure in that regard. and like you said, because it's one of those things that is so baked into us from such a young age, it's so difficult to explain to someone who doesn't share those feelings, because it probably isn't something they've ever had to consider before. thank you for writing this <3

Thank you so much for your kind words and insight! It's so powerful when we can confidently embrace our loneliness without the need for possible romantic attachment. I agree that relationships can feel like milestones we think are important, but they're just like everything else in this world: for some people and not for others. Wishing you a beautiful day. 💜

Thanks for sharing and being open!

I always said I’d never get married. I liked to date around, but it was not an attractive notion for me. And my parents have a wonderful marriage. It was just me! Did people make me feel odd for that? Yes! I don’t care for any type of societal rule that tells people how to have a happy life. I’m a bit rebellious anyway. There is a “formula”, and I don’t like it. This formula was created by common humans. We forget that part. I have a strong faith, but do not believe God set up these societal rules. Again, it’s just people. I got married later in age after I met my husband. He’s the only person who was able to change my mind about marriage. I would have been happy with any set up to be in relationship with my best friend.

You are also so on target about friendship. Even Shakespeare stated friendship was special. I had a close friend for years who I loved dearly. She was my soul mate in so many ways. We were so much alike it was uncanny. I miss her!

And I love my alone time. It’s not a sad thing. It’s peaceful! Many people have spouses who die before them and are alone at the end of their life. Kids are no guarantee either. I’ve seen kids who don’t visit or help their aging parents at all. These are bad reasons for getting married and having children in my opinion.

Let people be happy! We are all so different. We are not supposed to be clones. ❤️
