I decided to cut out YouTube (I don’t have social media) in April as an experiment as well. I spend my afternoons lost on videos that add nothing to my life. Looking forward to hearing about your experience!

OMG, yes, I feel like YouTube will be next. I loved finding so many videos about people sharing their leaving social media experience, but you're right—it's so easy to fall down a rabbit hole of video after video. I also took so many apps off of my phone, which I'm hoping will help as well.

Great article!! Cheering you on! More and more people feel this way of late.

As a Gen-X, I very much miss the days of news for only 30 minutes at night on 3 stations when I was a kid. Done!! It was so nice. I can definitely go days without looking at apps. I especially hate the time-suck you mentioned. So many things I could be enjoying and/or getting done. I feel like I wasted my day. Come to think of it, I haven’t touched my IG account since Sunday. My phone froze. After I got it fixed, I’ve been too busy to look at it. OR I might want to read! lol

Have you heard of the 7 types of rest? One of them is sensory. We can definitely get burned out on social media and devices. It’s overload, and I agree that our posts are not seen like they used to be 5-6 years ago.

Thanks for sharing, Sherry! I definitely doomscrolled more than I posted, which was another reason that led to this decision. So far, three days in, I'm reading more and putting my creative energy toward Substack and a new fiction idea. Once you clear the air of the overload, things stable.
